The characteristic that bedbugs can survive for a long time without feeding is accurate and highlights a key aspect of their biology. Bedbugs, specifically Cimex lectularius, are known for their ability to endure prolonged periods without a meal—often several months—under unfavorable conditions. This adaptability allows them to survive in environments where food sources may be scarce, making eradication efforts significantly challenging. Their resilience contributes to their reputation as persistent pests in both residential and commercial settings.

The other aspects presented in the choices do not pertain to bedbugs. They are terrestrial parasites primarily found in human dwellings, not in aquatic environments. In addition, they are commonly associated with urban settings rather than being restricted to rural areas. Furthermore, they do not feed on plant material; instead, they exclusively consume blood, which is essential to their lifecycle and reproduction. Understanding these characteristics is crucial for effective pest management and control strategies.
